Thymen Arensman elevated himself to third place overall with one day to go at Paris-Nice following another strong showing from the team on stage seven.

The Dutchman finished in a select peloton amid freezing conditions in Auron and now sits in a provisional podium position, one minute and 20 seconds back on leader Matteo Jorgenson (Visma | Lease a Bike).

Arensman was helped superbly in the closing stages by big turns from Bob Jungels and latterly Tobias Foss as the lead group depleted in size in freezing conditions.

Josh Tarling had pushed on up the road early on as part of a 15-man break, and the Welshman was on hand to aid Arensman and Sheffield in the final kilometre of the stage.

The end result sees Arensman third and Sheffield up to sixth, while Foss retains a place in the overall top 10 in ninth following a selfless ride late on.

As the race split apart on the climb, it would be breakaway member Michael Storer (Tudor Pro Cycling) who held on to take the stage win, 1:14 ahead of Arensman's group.
