Filippo Ganna rode hard to claim a silver medal for Italy in the time trial event at the Paris Olympic Games.

The 28 year old got quicker across the soaking wet 32.4-kilometre course, crossing the line 15 seconds back on winner Remco Evenepoel (Belgium).

It marked the first medal for Ganna on the road, after he claimed Gold in the team pursuit on the track in Tokyo.

Josh Tarling came within two seconds of a podium after battling back from an early front puncture and bike change. Despite the disappointment, the Brit got back into a rhythm and came close to a marvellous podium on his Olympic debut - finishing fourth.

Tobias Foss finished 13th in the colours of Norway, while Magnus Sheffield (USA) and Michal Kwiatkowski (Poland) came home 16th and 23rd respectively.
