Jhonatan Narvaez got the Tour of Guangxi off to a strong start by taking an early bonus second on stage one.

The Ecuadorian champion contested the opening intermediate sprint to pick up the useful time bonus and kick off his GC campaign in the six-day race.

The day's action played out across laps of the Fangchenggang circuit in the final road race of the season for the INEOS Grenadiers. At the finish Narvaez also contested the bunch sprint, placing 11th over the line, and now sitting sixth overall.

Lionel Taminiaux (Lotto Dstny) claimed the victory to move into an early race lead, fending off Gijs Van Hoecke (Intermarche Wanty) at the line.
