Pidcock sixth in Barnsley sprint

Tom Pidcock sprinted to sixth in a gruelling stage three of the Tour of Britain. 

Pidcock finished as part of a reduced bunch following a rain and wind-affected south Yorkshire stage which was raced at a hectic pace from the opening kilometre.

Steven Williams (Israel - Premier Tech) sealed victory to extend his overall lead, with Pidcock finishing on the same time behind. 

Earlier, south Yorkshire's own Ben Swift had impressed on home roads, attacking as the stage started, quickly amassing a small lead in a lead quartet. 

After looking as thought their escape would be limited, the group stayed clear for the early part of the stage until they were reeled in as Soudal-Quick-Step increased the pace in the peloton. 

As the wind swirled and the riders powered through Cadeby and Thurnscoe, Connor Swift and Ethan Hayter both tried on numerous occasions to cause another split in the peloton until Tobias Foss finally gained an advantage and went clear in a group of eight. 

This move lasted over 50 kilometres, but was wound back in on the final climb as the race reached Barnsley. Pidcock attempted a counter attack, but was caught before the descent, setting up a reduced bunch sprint that was won by Williams.
