The INEOS Grenadiers came through stage five safely at the Tour de France on a historic day in the race’s history.
Sir Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan) sprinted to his 35th career Tour de France stage win into Saint Vulbas, becoming the most successful sprinter in the race’s history.
The INEOS Grenadiers worked well together on a day which gradually intensified on the approach to the finish. Hitting the front when required, the team were able to safely tick off the test, with both Carlos Rodriguez and Egan Bernal retaining sixth and 10th positions respectively.
Jonathan Castroviejo worked hard to lead the line, moving the team to the fore in the closing stages as the rain began to fall. The action continues on Thursday with another potential day for the sprinters.
Over at the Tour of Austria, the team rode hard on the first full road stage of the event. Filippo Ganna narrowly missed out on the race lead after taking a pair of bonus seconds at the final intermediate sprint. The Italian sits second overall, level on time with new leader Max Walscheid (Jayco AlUla).
Magnus Sheffield (eighth) and Brandon Rivera (ninth) remain well placed on GC.
