Ethan Hayter and Performance Engineer Dan Bigham won Silver as part of the GB team in the Paris Team Pursuit. The medal was decided in the final few laps after a thrilling showdown between them and the Australian quartet.

The Australians, who broke the World Record in qualifying, led for much of the four kilometre effort, but GB never gave them more than a fraction of a second. As the laps ticked down, the British four seemed to be closing ground. Unfortunately, Ethan, after pulling for much of the final kilometre, slipped from his saddle in the final moments. With three riders needed to record a time, and only two remaining, the GB pair were forced to wait, as Australia took Gold.

Just moments prior, Filippo Ganna, as part of the Italian team, put in a great ride to win Bronze in the same event, against a strong Danish team.

Team GB's Ethan Hayter speaking to BBC TV after winning silver in the team pursuit final: "We were so close and I could see it. It was nearly five laps at the end and I just really gave too much, and my whole body went weak and I really struggled to hold myself on the bike in the end.

"Sorry to the guys but I think we gave everything and we can be proud of that silver medal.

"We were super happy to win a silver medal but it was really there for the taking for us and we kind of knew that. We went out to get it but just came short in the end, so it's a shame."
