Ben Turner came within inches of pulling off a sensational stage victory at Ruta del Sol.

The Brit launched an audacious long-range sprint in the final metres into Pozoblanco, only to be caught in a photo finish by Alexander Kristoff.

The decorated sprinter (Uno X Mobility) narrowly edged out the victory over Turner, who had jumped early following a strong lead-out from Connor Swift and Omar Fraile.

The result continues the team's momentum following a number of wins and podium places during the week. Wednesday's runner-up Brandon Rivera was able to finish following a crash with 22.5km to go.

Friday also saw day three at the Volta ao Algarve, with a sprint finish ensuring Laurens De Plus remained in third place overall.

The Belgian was looked after well throughout the day, with the INEOS Grenadiers well placed across the 183.5km parcours.

Sam Watson led the team home in 10th in a bunch kick won by Jordi Meeus (Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe).

Josh Tarling held on to second place overall at the UAE Tour following an exciting fifth stage. An early attack from race leader Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) with 149km to go sparked huge surprise in the peloton.

Victor Langellotti was alert to the move and was able to push clear in a group which swelled to 11 riders. With the gap spinning out to 2:40 at one point, the sprinter teams were forced to work hard to bring the race back together with 39km to go.

Sadly the finale saw three Grenadiers caught up in a late crash with 3.2km to go. Carlos Rodriguez, Ben Swift and Langellotti all went down, but were able to remount and finish the stage. Rodriguez escaped with cuts and bruises, with checks revealing no fractures for Swift. Langellotti sustained a fractured collarbone and will be forced to abandon the race when it resumes on Saturday.
