Elia Viviani sprinted to fifth place as the opening stage of CRO Race kicked off with a bunch kick.

The Italian launched his sprint off the wheel of Ben Turner after some impressive lead-out work in the final kilometres from his INEOS Grenadiers teammates.

The team had hit the front following the day's only major climb and set a tempo on the run into Sinj. Michael Leonard was leading the peloton when he slid out on a fast right-hander on the run-in, but was quickly back up.

Some heavy turns drove the peloton into the final metres, where Alexander Kristoff (Uno-X Mobility) was able to pick up the victory and the early race lead.

The action resumes on Wednesday with a hilly finish and potential for a reduced bunch sprint.
