Sam Watson sprinted to fourth place at the Figueira Champions Classic following an attacking showing from the INEOS Grenadiers.
The Brit held on well over the final climb to position himself in the reduced bunch kick behind solo winner Antonio Morgado.
Third in the sprint and fourth overall continued a consistent start to the year for Watson, with Filippo Ganna also putting in a huge performance on the day.
The Italian followed up a dig by Laurens De Plus and went clear of the peloton on the penultimate lap of the race, pushing on solo with just under 50km to go.
Opening out a gap in excess of 40 seconds, Ganna caused a hard chase behind and would eventually be reeled in on the final ascent, following the best part of 30km off the front.
De Plus again helped drive the pace to bring Morgado (UAE Team Emirates – XRG) back late on, but there was no stopping the Portuguese from winning on home soil.
The team's racing block in Portugal continues on Wednesday at the Volta ao Algarve.
