STAGE 2 » MATARÓ › VALLTER 2000 (186.5KM)

Egan Bernal climbed to seventh place in horrific weather conditions atop Vallter 2000. The day sees the Colombian move to seventh on GC, matching his stage result.

The team were well positioned throughout the day, sitting just behind the head of the bunch, in increasingly difficult conditions.

Descending the penultimate climb of the day, and the weather conditions would continue to deteriorate, ultimately resulting in a loss of footage for much of the climb.

The initial selection was made early on, with Egan in a group of eight, before eventual stage winner Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) took off solo.

A spirited performance from the Colombian saw him battle all the way to the line, crossing the line in seventh, 1’47” back. The result sees the Grenadier slip to seventh on GC.
