STAGE 6 » BERGA › QUERALT (154.7KM)

Egan Bernal put in a tenacious ride to claim second in the penultimate stage of Volta Catalunya, a result that seems him vault up to third on GC ahead of tomorrow’s traditional circuit in Barcelona.

The first split was made on the ferocious Coll de Pradell with Bernal making an elite 12 rider selection, before a rapid descent saw some regrouping ahead of a gruelling final 30 kilometres.

Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) would once again lead solo atop the second to last climb, with Egan in third. Some fearless descending and full gas riding would see Bernal bridge to second on the road, Mikel Landa (Soudal - Quickstep).

Onto the final climb, and there was nothing to separate the pair, before the Colombian put in a great sprint to the line to claim second on the day.

“I’m just happy and really motivated to keep working... I jump to catch Landa and then we work together really well. It’s another step forward. I just need to keep my feet on the ground. There’s still a lot of work to do."
